Common Candle Colours & their Meanings

Common Candle Colours & their Meanings

Candle magic is a powerful and versatile practice that has been used for centuries to bring about desired changes in the world. One aspect of candle magic that is often utilized is that of colour correspondences.

The belief behind colour correspondences is that different colours hold specific energies and vibrations that can be harnessed and directed towards a specific intention or goal. For example, red is associated with passion and energy, making it a great colour to use for spells related to love and sex. Blue, on the other hand, is associated with communication and wisdom, making it a great colour for spells related to self-expression and decision-making.

When using colour correspondences in candle magic, it is important to consider not only the colour of the candle but also the scent and any additional materials used in the spell. For example, a red candle scented with cinnamon oil or cinnamon powder can be used to attract love and money. A blue candle scented with lavender and dressed with a piece of turquoise can be used to promote communication and wisdom.

It is important to note that colour correspondences are not set in stone and can vary based on personal beliefs and cultural/traditional practices. It's always a good idea to experiment and find what works best for you.

Sometimes you will use a candle simply because you feel that it is the right candle/colour for your spell. If you are performing a spell for someone that you love, or a deceased loved one, you may even like to use their favourite colour. Like all things, do what feels right to you. The colour correspondences are a general guide to what is traditionally used in Eurocentric Witchcraft.

Using colour correspondences in candle magic can add an extra layer of intention and focus to your spellwork. By understanding the energies and vibrations associated with different colours, you can more effectively direct and harness their power towards achieving your desired outcome.

Practice with the colours listed and see whether or not they work for you. If these colours do not give you the desired outcome, record them in your Book of Shadows and experiment with different colours until you find what works best for your practice. This way you can develop your own personal candle colour correspondences!
